The Dippemess in Frankfurt will take place from 11 April to 4 May 2025.

The Dippemess in Frankfurt is regarded as the leading public festival in the Rhein-Main region. It takes place twice a year on the fairground on Ratsweg. The spring Dippemess in April is rather loud, colourful and shrill, whereas the autumn Dippemess is the quiet traditional family event.

Where does the name Dippemess come from?

The festival was first mentioned in the 14th century. At that time it was a sales market for household goods of all kinds. In the Middle Ages potters from the Westerwald, the Kannenbäckerland and Urberach sold their products. Mainly ceramic bowls and pots, which were called “Dippe” in Franconian. Today, it is above all showmen and their rides that characterise the image of the folk festival. Over the years, the festival had to move from the Römer to the fairground on the Ratsweg, as there was simply no space left. A fixed component is the large festival tent.
