Looking for an Advent Conference? Three Regions Deliver
The November calendar usually fills up first with everything that needs finishing before Christmas – and the Advent conference is often the first thing to get cut. Yet this is precisely the season worth the effort: few other times of year offer such a dense, free supporting programme as a German Christmas market right outside the venue. Within the Seminar Hotels Germany portfolio, three regions combine particularly well for an Advent format.
East: Dresden and Weimar
In the east, Dresden and Weimar face off. Dresden’s Internationales Congress Center offers capacity for up to 6,800 delegates alongside the Dresden Striezelmarkt (25 November to 24 December 2026), one of Germany’s best-known Christmas-market backdrops. Weimar takes a more compact route, with the Weimarhalle (up to 1,200 seats in its main hall) and the Weimarer Weihnacht (24 November 2026 to 3 January 2027) offering a culturally dense format.
West: Aachen and Münster
In the west, the Eurogress Aachen holds up to 2,830 delegates, surrounded by the Aachen Christmas market (20 November to 23 December 2026) and its Printen gingerbread tradition. Münster answers with the Congress Centrum Halle Münsterland (Congress Saal seating up to 1,071) and six independent Christmas markets across its old town, all running from 23 November to 23 December 2026. One planning note: direct trains between Aachen and Münster are rare, and the journey, usually with one change, takes around 2 hours 40 minutes to 3 hours. Groups wanting to use both cities are better served by two separate dates than one combined trip.
South: Nuremberg and Augsburg
In the south, Nuremberg’s NürnbergConvention Center and its 50 halls deliver the largest capacity in this entire comparison: up to 12,800 delegates. Alongside it runs the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt (27 November to 24 December 2026), one of the most famous Christmas markets in the world. Augsburg offers around 1,430 seats at the Kongress am Park and, with the Augsburg Christkindlesmarkt (23 November to 24 December 2026, first recorded in 1498), one of Germany’s oldest markets. This pair’s advantage: Nuremberg and Augsburg are directly connected by ICE in around 70 minutes, making them easy to combine in a single format.
Which region suits your group?
- Large formats above 300 delegates: Nuremberg offers the most reliable capacity, followed by Dresden and Aachen.
- Combining two cities in one day: only possible in the south, between Nuremberg and Augsburg, thanks to the direct ICE link without major time loss.
- A compact cultural format with short distances: Weimar and Münster stand out for their dense old towns and several smaller markets rather than one large one.
The same advice applies across all three regions: the weeks around each Christmas market’s peak are booked out months in advance. Anyone targeting a date in November or December 2026 should submit their request four to six months ahead if possible.
