Excursions and sights in Nuremberg

• Kaiserburg Nürnberg: The landmark of Nürnberg is one of the most important castles in Germany. The name appeared in written sources already in 1105. From 1050 to 1571 all Roman-German emperors stayed at the Imperial Castle. Today the old imperial stables are home to one of the largest and most modern youth hostels in Germany.
• Nuremberg Zoo: 3295 animals of 292 different species live here. A huge number. The dolphin lagoon is Germany’s first outdoor facility for dolphins and sea lions. Nuremberg Zoo participates in 46 international breeding programmes and is also a partner zoo of the Stiftung Artenschutz (Foundation for the Protection of Species).
• Sebalduskirche: Nuremberg has many churches. One of the most famous is the Sebalduskirche. At the same time the former “Ratskirche” is the oldest parish church in Nuremberg. Not only the architectural style is special, but also the exquisite art treasures and relics that are kept here. Furthermore, St. Lawrence’s and the Frauenkirche are among the most important churches in Nuremberg.
• Handwerkerhof: In the “small town at the Königstor” near the Frauentorturm, handicraft products are offered. Look over the shoulder of the doll maker or goldsmith. Try Nuremberg sausages, gingerbread and other Franconian specialities.
• Neues Museum: Visit the State Museum of Art and Design in Nuremberg. Even the architecture of the striking building is special. Situated in the middle of the historic old town, the 100-metre-long curved glass façade gives a first glimpse of the building’s interior. Around 1500 works of art are on display. Not far from the museum is the sculpture garden.
