Anyone still looking for a venue for November or December 2026 will notice the same thing: choice narrows fast the closer the date sits to Christmas. Booking a Christmas conference well takes more than picking a nice location — it takes an honest read of which format actually suits your group, made before the best dates disappear from the calendar.

Within the German portfolio at Seminar Hotels Germany, this contrast shows up clearly between two cities: Dresden and Weimar. One sits in Saxony, the other in Thuringia; both run their own Christmas markets, yet they suit rather different types of conference.

Format first, city second

The most common planning mistake in the run-up to Advent is choosing the city before checking the format. It works better the other way round. Anyone expecting more than 300 delegates will struggle to avoid a dedicated congress venue. For groups of up to around 200, a much wider field of seminar hotels across Germany opens up — from larger houses with their own conference wing to compact venues with more personal service.

Dresden: established scale

Dresden’s strengths include the Internationales Congress Center – capacity for up to 6,800 delegates, right on the banks of the Elbe – and the Striezelmarkt (25 November to 24 December 2026), one of Germany’s best-known Christmas markets. The conference hotels in Dresden also offer a dense choice at every scale, plus the city’s own airport — a clear advantage when delegates are arriving from several regions or from abroad.

Weimar: the compact alternative

Weimar has no dedicated page in our portfolio, but it still deserves a close look: its old town, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Classical Weimar”, can be covered entirely on foot, which all but eliminates transfer time between the agenda and the evening programme. The Congress Centrum Neue Weimarhalle holds up to 400 guests across five combinable rooms. The “Weimarer Weihnacht” (24 November 2026 to 3 January 2027) brings a noticeably smaller-scale, quieter Advent mood than Dresden’s market.

Which event suits which city?

The choice comes down to format more than taste:
